What do you know about a healthy gut?

1. Determine your current level of knowledge about gut health.

If you are one of the thousands of individuals who do not suffer from any type of food allergy or sensitivity you probably never think about your gut. I never thought about mine until I was faced with Clostridioides difficile infection, or C-diff. C-diff is a life-threatening disease intestinal disease. I developed C-diff as a reaction to antibiotics.  Once I recovered, I had to learn what I am sharing with you.

2. Determine the current health of your gut.  You can easily expose yourself to the bacteria and parasites that make your gut sick. How? When we are healthy, we tend to eat foods or drink beverages that are not properly cleaned, cooked, or prepared.

Our lack of knowledge of the first signs of discomfort usually causes us to ignore the warning signs of our digestive system. We already know that our intestine contains both good and bad bacteria. The problem occurs when the bad out-weighs the good.

According to Healthline, “Numerous studies in the past two decades have demonstrated links between gut health and the immune system, mood, mental health, autoimmune diseases, endocrine disorders, skin conditions, and cancer.” In my situation, after the development of C-diff, I must now always think about my gut microbiome, and the organisms living in my intestines.

3. Get to know your microbiome. The gut microbiome is the inside of our intestines. The gut microbiome contains 300 to 500 different forms or species of bacteria (Healthline). As you investigate your own gut health, reviewing your sugar intake should be at the top of your review list. Evidently, bad bacteria loves sugar. You may start to notices problems with gas, indigestion, heartburn, mood swings, headaches, weight gain, and more. When your body starts signaling you, about the problem, you must answer.

5. Use your new knowledge to protect your gut from hidden germs.
Now that you know the hidden hot spots for germs, empower yourself. Use this information to guide your actions and develop a system for removing germs away from your body.

I have successfully used most of the following recommendations for the past twelve years.

  1. I found simple changes that increased my immune health. I began taking supplements that killed the germs. I started with garlic. I would crush a garlic clove, then swallow it whole with water like it was a pill.
  2. Increased the number of foods cook to include garlic and onions as a seasoning. I eat beans or lentils, stir fry, homemade soups cooked with onion and garlic at least once per week.
  3. Listen to your body. Sometimes I get an irritation in my lungs that feels like bubbles. I know that is linked to my intestines, so I use PB8 to kill the bad bacteria
  4. Determine which macronutrients work best for you. If beans and lentils are not your things, try oatmeal. I put a teaspoon of flaxseed, raisins, pecans, and unflavored almond milk in mine.
  5. Increase the amount of herbal and/or green tea you drink and remove soda, even diet soda. I replaced soda with sparkling water to get that fizz that comes with soda.
  6. Get lots of rest, you will need it when you first start this journey.
  7. Exercise as much as possible. You may want to start with short walks and increase as your strength increases. Remember you are guiding yourself through expert exposed healthy gut facts.

Detox Your Body

Dandelion tea has numerous research indications that support a healthy gut and liver. It also has positive potential to reduce other immune and good health sucking compounds out of your body.

I use detox my liver with dandelion root tea. I detox 2 or 3 times per year. The dandelion tea increase the bile secretions in the intestines, thereby increasing the removal of waste from your system. I highly recommend using it according to the directions on the package. I have found that overusing it leads to diarrhea.

Nonetheless, you want to determine any allergic reactions, interactions to medications, so be sure to speak to your doctor about detoxing with dandelion tea.

In addition to detoxing, I eat  sauerkraut once or twice per month. I also make my own sauerkraut using the cold method. This allows me to control what goes in or stays out of my food.  Also, to increase my ability to increase gut health, I use garlic powder to season the cabbage instead of salt.

The experts at Psychology Today exposed these hidden healthy gut recommendations for better gut health.

  • Start using less aggressive anti-bacterial spices like cinnamon and cloves. Determine how they affect you, if they are not aggressive enough, switch to another recommended immune booster.
  • Move to more aggressive anti-bacterial oils like oregano oil, olive leaf, and grapefruit seed extract. I use grapefruit seed extract. It is an outstanding immune booster.
  • Include turmeric and ginger to reduce inflammation. Turmeric also supports a healthy gut as it creates a balance between the gut flora and immune response. This balance regenerates the intestine when bad bacteria or leaky gut occur.

Grapefruit Seed Extract

Grapefruit Seed Extract, also known as GSE, is a very powerful natural immune booster. I highly recommend adding it to your regiment because of it is very economically priced for the healthy support it provides.

I recommend using it according to the label. In addition to the label recommendations, I add it to my green teas.

create healthy gut diets that heal you

7. Use a healthy gut diet to heal your system.

The last and most aggressive change that I have made is switching to a KETO diet. I do not recommend a 100% KETO diet. But if you can lower your carb intake to 200 or less per day, it will help you control your weight. I started with training my taste buds to like stevia. Using stevia got me off sugar. Then I added almond milk and other Silk alternatives to my diet. The change to almond milk got me off rice milk.

In addition to lower sugar, develop a diet that includes dark green vegetables and fresh fruit. Even more important, let go of the processed foods and greasy restaurant foods.
